Bit of a weird experience really. After much over-exuberant crowd control by the staff (a little anti the graff ethics surely?) a really good concept for a show was a bit tainted with frustration. There weren’t as many live graffiti artists in the studio for my liking and it seemed a bit “kiddy” heavy. I guess a lot of people find it a bit hard to take graffiti seriously as an art form; people either love it or hate it vehemently. Despite all the negative vibes, the company that set it up, The Graffiti Research Lab, had some AMAZING concepts and wicked ideas and seem to be at the forefront of developing street art and new ways of communicating. And they also seem to making a really big effort to break down people’s presumptuous opinions about street art. Breaking down stereotypes is such an important thing to be doing in today’s defensive, cold, quick to categorise society!
